ROAR!!!!!!!!!!
![Picture](/uploads/6/1/9/9/6199797/6352581.jpg)
We learned about Dragons from the East (Chinese) and the West (European). We chose to draw the Western dragon!!!! The Western Dragon breathes fire but don't think that about the Eastern Dragon, they spit water. The Chinese dragon is a symbol of good luck and is the ruler of moving water, rivers and seas. First we drew the dragon in pencil on a little peice of paper. We could work by ourselves, with a partner or in a small group. Then we drew it on a BIG piece of paper. Next we outlined it with sharpie and then colored it in with oil pastels. Finally we smeared the oil pastels with our fingers to blend our colors.

Still Life Paintings
Art can show us what people, places, animals and objects have looked like. It can also teach us about other time periods. By looking at and discussing still life art students were able to analyze the images and could infer to figure out when it was created.
Students have been working hard on their still life paintings. Many of them brought in objects from home to use as part of their composition and to add a personal touch. They had to draw what they saw, include overlapping, at least 3 objects and a variety of primary and secondary colors in their projects. If people from the future analyze our work, they would be able to learn about us too.

Koi Fish!
![Picture](/uploads/6/1/9/9/6199797/6266173.jpg)
Art can teach us about other cultures and time periods. Did you know in Japan the Koi or carp fish is a symbol of strength and courage? That is why it is the symbol for a holiday in May called Children's Day. On that day carp kites are hung outside of everyone's houses in the form of a kite. The oldest boy has the longest kite. We made our fish out of earth clay to learn about clay techniques. The final product also gave us a chance to practice creating patterns.
Woodland Pouches
![Picture](/uploads/6/1/9/9/6199797/1419680.jpg)
Second graders learned about the Woodland Indians and how they designed their pouches with floral images because of the environment they lived in. The Woodland people used raw hide or animal skin to form their pouches but we used a variety of different kinds of fabric, feathers, and beads for our designs.
