Eastern and Western Dragons!
In this assignment we had to make a Eastern and/or Western dragon to help us better understand how art can teach us about different cultures and time periods . We had to create a background, add details, include overlapping, a variety of colors, pattern, and good craftsmanship. We could work cooperatively with a partner or in a small group. After everyone was done their awesome work we took pictures of them{below}. Guest writers and photographers: Melanie Boschen and Alex Gregory

Coil Pots
Students were so excited to finally get their hands on some earth clay this year. We discussed pottery and how art can serve a function. Students designed their coil pots to have a specific function or purpose. They did this by adding handles, lids and spouts. We even had a student create a hermit crab feeding bowl! O'Keeffe Batiks
We learned about artist Georgia O'Keeffe to give us project inspiration. She liked to observe nature and paint what she saw so people would appreciate what things looked like. We chose an image to work from, then followed the steps in the batik process which is a type of fabric art.
1. Sketched
2. Traced our designs on fabric
3. Squeezed Elmers blue gel glue over our pencil lines to keep the paint off that section.
4. Painted with acrylic paint to make our flowers look realistic and show value in the color.
5. Mrs. Minnick soaked our projects in warm water.
6. We scrubbed off the glue to reveal lines the color of the fabric!
