Visual art is a language to communicate thoughts, feelings, and ideas!
Within each art lesson we focus on one more more big idea to guide our learning.
Express Yourself!Art allows us to express ourselves is one of our big ideas in the art room. Pablo Picasso used color to express his emotions which helped him to work through difficult times in his life. Students created abstract Picasso style faces and then carefully thought about which colors they should use to express that emotion.

Art shows us what people, places, animals and objects have looked like. What did people do before cameras? How did they keep record of what people looked like? They commissioned an artist to paint their portrait that's how!
Art can tell us how important a person, place or event has been.As part of an arts integrated lesson, Miss Chaney's 5th graders analyzed Paul Revere's Boston Massacre to better understand how art can reflect the human experience.
Art can serve a function. For example, think about pottery and the many uses it has had throughout history and in today's society.
